MOROCCO SPECIAL
-

Nestled in the enchanting North African region, Morocco has long been revered as a gem that beckons to be discovered. With its rich tapestry of vibrant cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and an aura of timeless charm, Morocco stands as an extraordinary destination for any adventurous soul seeking a remarkable travel experience.

ESSAOUIRA

Essaouira, the “Bride of the Atlantic” is a beautiful seaside resort set in one of the most wooded landscapes in Morocco. The ecosystem is composed of pine forests, dunes, lakes, and a wild coast that is being preserved with environmentally conscious tourism in mind.  Its architecture includes houses with white and blue facades and crenelated walls. Visitors can walk quietly in the shade of its ramparts (made famous by the city of Astapor in the Game of Thrones series) or make the most of the city's notorious wind by trying their hand at water sports.

From the working fishing port to the streets of the Medina, Essaouira is ranked one of Morocco’s most beautiful cities by UNESCO. It is also home to the only vineyard estate in Morocco to have obtained organic certification, Domaine Du Val D’Argan, which is nestled in the hollow of a valley amidst the shade of argan and olive trees.

TAGHAZOUT

Once simply a small fishing village near Agadir, Taghazout has, over recent years, become a tourist destination. This newfound interest is all down to Taghazout’s global reputation as one of the world’s top surf spots.

Anchor Point, Killer Point (named after the pods of killer whales that can occasionally be seen in the vicinity rather than anything more sinister), Mysteries, and Hash Point - all names that are known throughout the surfing community as some of the top places in the world to catch waves beside seven-kilometre-long beaches. There are numerous surf schools to be found near the beach, catering from the beginner to the expert. Some offer basic introductory lessons while others provide everything from accommodation and food to yoga classes, perfect for stretching out the sore muscles after a day on (and off) the board. There is accommodation for everyone, from old-school surf hostels to beachfront villas and luxury hotels, many of which have been built over the last 10 years. Visitors can reach Taghazout via Agadir, it's just a few miles to the south of the city.

OUARZAZATE

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Atlas Mountains in Morocco lies the charming city of Ouarzazate, a true oasis in the heart of the desert. Known as the ‘Door of the Desert,’ Ouarzazate offers a wealth of stunning sights and experiences that are sure to enchant every traveller. From ancient ksars to stunning natural landscapes, and traditional handicrafts to Hollywood film studios, Ouarzazate has something for everyone.

KSAR AIT BENHADDOU

One of the must-visit places in Ouarzazate is Ksar Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient, fortified village features traditional Moroccan architecture with buildings made from clay and stone - truly an architectural gem. Visitors can take a guided tour to learn about the history of the ksar and admire its intricate details.

OASIS VALLEY, KASBAHS & KSARS

Ouarzazate is surrounded by valleys of lush oasis, home to palm groves and traditional kasbahs (fortified houses). Visitors can take a tour of the valleys to experience the local way of life and see the stunning architecture. The Skoura Oasis is a popular destination, famous for its beautiful kasbahs and palmeraie (palm groves), along the 1000 kasbahs route.

ROSE VALLEY & SAFFRON VALLEY

These stunning valleys are a must-see when visiting the region. The Rose Valley is home to Morocco’s rose capital, Kalaat M’Gouna, where visitors can witness the annual rose harvest and visit local distilleries to see how rose water and perfumes are made. In the Saffron Valley, visitors can see the harvest of saffron, one of the world’s most expensive spices.

DADES & TODRA GORGES

Nature lovers will enjoy visiting the Dades and Todra Gorges, two of Morocco's most stunning natural landscapes. The Dades Gorge is known for its unique rock formations, while the Todra Gorge is famous for its towering cliffs and crystal-clear water. Visitors can take guided tours to explore these breathtaking landscapes and experience hiking or rock climbing.

CINEMA STUDIOS

Ouarzazate is also known as the ‘Hollywood of Africa’ due to its many film studios. Visitors can check out the Atlas Studios to see where famous movies such as “Gladiator” and “Lawrence of Arabia” were filmed.

SUSTAINABILITY AS A STANDARD

For more than 20 years, the development of tourism in Morocco has been designed with sustainability in mind. In recent years, Marrakech has been equipped with a wastewater treatment plant that allows the watering of dozens of golf courses in the city in addition to the palm grove, as in Agadir.

Morocco has introduced incentive labels such as the 'Moroccan Trophies of Responsible Tourism', launched by the Ministry of Tourism in 2008; the 'green key' label for eco-friendly hotels; and the 'blue flag' label awarded to 21 Moroccan beaches for their cleanliness, introduced in Morocco by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Environment.
